Those trying to cause Kyiv to use force to suppress protests should be held accountable - Lavrov
MOSCOW. April 14 (Interfax) - Those who are encouraging the current Ukrainian administration to use military units to suppress protests in the eastern regions of Ukraine should be held accountable for their actions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"Those who are encouraging the current administration in Kyiv to behave in this way should bear full liability," Lavrov told a press conference after meeting with his Sudanese counterpart Ali Karti.
Lavrov also said the actions taken by the Kyiv administration in the past few days to establish dialogue with the southern and eastern regions of the country "were compromised by the decision to use full force, including army units."
Lavrov also said he is hoping to hear a clear reaction from the West to the events taking place in the southeastern regions of Ukraine without double standards.
The level of hypocrisy is in the Kyiv administration's evaluation of the events in the southeastern regions of Ukraine is currently "very high," he said.
"The violence on the Maidan, which resulted in dozens of casualties, was called democracy and the peaceful protests that are now taking place in the southeastern regions are being called terrorism and they are announcing the use of the army to conduct a so-called anti-terrorist operation. The level of hypocrisy here is very high," Lavrov said.
