Russian AF to receive 16 new MiG-29SMT fighters
MOSCOW. April 15 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Defense Ministry and Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG (RIC MiG) have signed a contract for the supply of 16 MiG-29SMT multirole fighter aircraft that will be built and handed over to the Air Force before the end of 2016.
"The government contract for the supply was signed by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yury Borisov and Sergei Korotkov, the General Director of RIC MiG which is part of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC)," according to a joint press release by the defense ministry's press office and the UAC department of corporate communications, obtained by Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.
"The contract, including ground support and test equipment, is worth over 17 billion rubles," the press release said.
The contract aims to maintain the combat readiness of the fleet of lightweight fighters.
