BRICS nations understand Moscow position on Ukraine - expert

MOSCOW. April 16 (Interfax) - China and the other BRICS nations (Brazil, India, and South Africa) demonstrate their understanding of the Russian policy towards Ukraine, said Andrei Kokshin, head of the International Politics Department at the Moscow State University.

"The Chinese leadership is demonstrating a high level of support of Russian efforts to resolve the deep and dangerous crisis that has affected Ukraine," the former head of the Russian Security Council told Interfax, commenting on the official visit by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to China.

"This is the direct consequence of the comprehensive China-Russia partnership and strategic cooperation which has been successful for a number of years now," Kokoshin said.

This is also true for the Russian-Chinese military and military-technical cooperation, Kokoshin said.

"China, India, and the other BRICS countries, which are increasingly playing an important role in world economy and world politics, clearly have a serious understanding of the Russian position on this problem, our country's strategic interests with respect to the crisis in Ukraine," Kokoshin said.

"In this complicated international situation caused by the actions of the United States and a number of its allies, the Russian-Chinese relations were highly praised during Lavrov's visit to Beijing and were said to be "at their best in their entire history," the expert said.
