Russian GDP's 0.5% growth forecast moderately optimistic - finance ministry

MOSCOW. April 16 (Interfax) - The macroeconomic forecast of the Russian Economic Development Ministry should be more conservative in order to reduce fiscal vulnerability, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said.

"The forecast must be more conservative," he told reporters.

In particular, the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) growth forecast at 0.5%, which the Economic Development Ministry is presenting as a conservative one, does not appear such to the Finance Ministry, said Maksim Oreshkin, the head of the Finance Ministry's Department for Long-term Strategic Planning. "Rather, it looks moderately optimistic and does not take into account the potential risks for the Russian economy," he said.
