Kyiv taking public safety measures, readying bomb shelters
KYIV. April 17 (Interfax) - All measures to ensure defensive capabilities and public order in Kyiv are being implemented, head of the Kyiv city state administration Volodymyr Bondarenko said.
"Relevant services have been instructed to implement the necessary measures aimed at preventing terrorist attacks at strategic facilities of vital importance for Kyiv," Bondarenko told the Kyiv defense council on Thursday.
Bomb shelters are being put up and all parking areas and underground spaces are being revised for their possible use to protect the public, the Kyiv mayor said, according to a city hall spokesperson.
Bondarenko ordered the involved agencies to develop clear instructions for the public and inform Kyivans what they need to do in the event of an emergency and about the location of the nearest shelters. "We are organizing an additional explanatory work by engaging companies and institutions of all forms of ownership," he said.
