Industrial decline in Ukraine accelerates to 6.8% in March

KYIV. April 17 (Interfax) - Industrial output in Ukraine fell 6.8% year-on-year in March 2014, compared to decline of 3.7% in February and 5% in January, the State Statistics Service said.

In January-March 2014, decline accelerated to 5% from 4.2% in January-February 2014, while in January-March 2013 decline was 4.5%.

The service said that in March compared to February 2014 industrial production grew by 7.4%.

Industrial decline in 2013 accelerated to 4.7% against a 0.5% decline in 2012.

According to the service, in March 2014 compared to March 2013, the manufacturing industry showed a decline of 8.1%.

The largest decline was seen in machine building (17.4%), metallurgy sector (11.1%), coke processing and oil refining (6.6%), textile industry, clothes and leather production (4.1%), production of wood, paper and printing (3.2%), chemical industry (2.8%), rubber and plastic production (3.9%), food industry (2.6%), production of furniture, other products, repair and assembly of machinery and equipment (5.5%).

Growth of 1.8% was seen in pharmaceutical production.

In the mining industry the decline came to 3.5%.
