A Just Russia Party skeptical over Geneva agreements for Ukraine
MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - A Just Russia Party insists that the implementation of the agreements on de-escalating the Ukraine crisis that were reached by Russian, Ukrainian, U.S. and EU foreign ministers in Geneva on Thursday should be monitored thoroughly.
"Both the West and Ukraine tend to interpret the achieved agreements as unilateral. Such an interpretation of the Geneva agreements causes our serious concern. We will demand that the Foreign Ministry of Russia ensure very careful monitoring of these agreements. There must be no unilateral implementation of these agreements," the first deputy chairman of the party's parliamentary faction, Mikhail Yemelyanov, told reporters on Friday.
A Just Russia views the Geneva document as a "certain step toward settling the situation in Ukraine, albeit a modest one," he said, adding, however, that these agreements lack both the "mechanisms for their implementation and the sides' goodwill."
"Ukraine said today that it does not want to fulfill them and will keep the troops in the southeast [of Ukraine], while the U.S. has threatened to impose new sanctions on Russia. Obviously, the double-standard policy is being applied once again," Yemelyanov said.
