Georgia welcomes recognition of its European perspective by Europarl
TBILISI. April 18 (Interfax) - Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze has welcomed the mentioning of Georgia in a European Parliament resolution passed on Thursday as a country having a European perspective.
"This is a very important fact for us. It is becoming evident that the association agreement that we should sign in June is not the final stage of our integration with the European Union. This is just one more step forward. There are certain stages more for achieving our ultimate goal, that is, Georgia's membership in the European Union, but the goal is already obvious and tangible," Panjikidze told journalists on Friday.
The European Parliament's resolution says that Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine, like any other European state, have a European perspective and may apply to become EU members provided compliance with certain conditions.
