Putin cited Rasmussen tapping incident as example of unacceptable behavior - Kremlin spokesman
MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin recalled an incident in which NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen had surreptitiously taped a private conversation between the two and then leaked it to the media in 2002 as an example of what Russia views as unacceptable behavior between partners, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Putin said during a Q&A session on Thursday that, while serving as Danish prime minister, Rasmussen once had a tape recorder with him and secretly taped a conversation with Putin, after which this record was used in a documentary.
"Unfortunately, it did happen, and Putin didn't like it. He said about this, but he did this to illustrate something that has always been and will always be unacceptable to us," Peskov said in a televised talk show to be broadcast on Sunday.
Asked why Putin recalled the incident, which had happened some 12 years ago, at the Thursday call-in show, Peskov replied, "I think it just happened to be appropriate."
