Police officer injured in Makhachkala
MAKHACHKALA/MOSCOW. April 21 (Interfax) - A police officer was injured in an armed attack in Makhachkala. He is staying at a hospital, the Dagestani Interior Ministry press service told Interfax.
It said the officer was attacked on Gamidov Avenue at approximately 7:30 a.m.
"The police lieutenant was shot in a leg. The assailants ran away. They are being searched for," the press service spokesman said.
Meanwhile, a police source told Interfax "the traffic police officer was walking towards his car on Gamidov Avenue in Makhachkala at 7:30 a.m. to drive to the station and unknown assailants opened automatic gunfire."
The injured officer fired a service issue weapon in return.
The search for the assailants is underway. Tentative reports said there were two of them, the source said.
