Russia not considering resumption of Ukrainian cheese imports
MOSCOW. April 21 (Interfax) - Russia is not considering a resumption of cheese and candy imports from Ukraine, the head of consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor and chief sanitary doctor Anna Popova told journalists.
"There has been no request from the Ukrainian side. This issue cannot be examined," Popova said in response to a question from an Interfax correspondent.
On April 16, Popova had said the list of Ukrainian products banned from importation to Russia could be expanded.
"Today these products are referred to as risky ones, so enhanced control is performed," Russia's chief sanitary doctor, Rospotrebnadzor Chief Anna Popova told Interfax on Wednesday.
"Necessary measures will be definitely taken upon the appearance of products not meeting the demands of Russian law," Popova said.
On April 7 the Russian watchdog banned supplies from six Ukrainian enterprises producing cheese. "The violations are serious. Unfortunately, we must state that Ukrainian products in recent year have become high risk in sanitary-epidemiological terms and in terms of meeting consumer safety requirements," Popova said.
"We have been talking about this over the past several years. Unfortunately, work to correct mistakes has not been carried out. We are once again talking about violations by a host of Ukrainian producers of laws in the consumer rights area and about counterfeit products," she said.
Rospotrebnadzor has banned importation of dairy products from Ukraine's ChP Ros, an affiliate of Akhtyrsky Cheese Combine, Piryatinsky Cheese Combine, Gadyachsyr LLC, Zolotonoshsky Maslodelny Combine and Tekhmolprom LLC, the agency reported on April 7.
Rospotrebnadzor's Ukrainian counterpart, Gospotrebinspektsia, began removing Russian products from sale at the beginning of April.
