Russian fish catch down 1.9% to 1.5 mln tonnes since start of 2014

MOSCOW. April 22 (Interfax) - Russian fishermen have caught 1.529 million tonnes of fish since the beginning of the year, which is 1.9% less than they caught in the same period of 2012, the Federal Fisheries Agency (Rosrybolovstvo) reported.

Fishers boosted their catch in the Far Eastern Basin by 13,800 tonnes to 1.130 million tonnes. Pollock was the main hunt in the area, at 905,300 tonnes, up 36,600 tonnes.

In the Northern Basin, the fish catch was down 16,000 tonnes year-to-date to 225,700 tonnes. The cod catch grew by 23,600 tonnes to 172,400 tonnes

Russian fishers reeled in 19,300 tonnes of fish (up 3,700 tonnes from last year) in the Baltic Sea. They caught 5,100 more tonnes of Baltic herring, at 8,500 tonnes.

Fishers caught 10,000 tonnes of fish (down 9,000 tonnes) in the Azov-Black Sea Basin, and 7,900 tonnes of fish (down 1,100 tonnes) in the Caspian Basin.

In the waters of foreign states, Russian fishermen caught 91,000 tonnes of fish, or 40,800 tonnes less than they caught last year.
