Over 500 candidates register to run in "primaries" to Moscow City Duma
MOSCOW. April 22 (Interfax) - Over 500 people have registered to participate in preliminary selection of candidates for Moscow City Duma deputies in the framework of the civil initiative My Moscow, organizing committee member, Nezavisimaya Gazeta (Independent Newspaper) Editor-in-Chief Konstantin Remchukov said.
"As of now, 524 individuals have expressed willingness to participate [in "primaries"] as candidates," Remchukov said at a news conference in the central office of Interfax on Tuesday.
Any Moscow resident over 21 years old with no federal restrictions can be registered as a candidate for a Moscow City Duma deputy in the framework of the civil initiative My Moscow, Remchukov said.
"Currently, most candidates are registered in the North-Eastern Administrative District (44), it is followed by the Western District (35) and South-Eastern District (34)," Remchukov said.
The application to participate in the "primaries," which will he held on June 8, started on March 31.
It is planned to organize 500 voting sites in Moscow for the "primaries," which will have everything as ordinary elections - voting booths, ballot boxes, election committee and monitors.
The vote of June 8 will last between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. and its results will be released on June 10.
Elections to the Moscow City Duma of the sixth calling will be held on the single vote day of September 14. The deputies' powers last five years and a total of 45 deputies are to be elected under the majority system.
