Nazarbayev: Constructive dialogue at Eurasian Media Forum to build up mutual understanding, confidence
ASTANA. April 24 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has sent greetings to delegates to the 12th conference of the Eurasian Media Forum, which opens in Astana on Thursday.
"Eurasian integration processes are entering a new level of development. A historic treaty setting up the Eurasian Economic Union is due to be signed here, in Astana, in May 2014," he said.
The chief of state pointed to the special role and mission of the Eurasian Media Forum in the creation of an atmosphere of trust between countries and continents and the preservation of inter-ethnic peace and accord.
"This forum is taking place in a complicated global political period. Many events of the recent months once again demonstrated the significance of the preservation of inter-ethnic peace (...). I am positive that the constructive dialogue at the Media Forum will foster mutual understanding and confidence," the president emphasized.
Kazakhstan's news agency Khabar formerly led by the daughter of the president, Dariga Nazarbayev, initiated the forum. The Forum was officially registered in 2001 as a non-profit non-governmental organization, the Eurasian Media Forum Foundation. The first conference of the Eurasian Media Forum was held in 2002. The Forum traditionally hosts debates on important political and media issues.
The 12th conference of the Eurasian Media Forum will be held in Astana on April 24-25. Delegates will confer on Syria and Ukraine amongst other matters.
