Lavrov: Kyiv should immediately stop using army against people

MOSCOW. April 25 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov believes stopping the use of the Ukrainian army against the people of Ukraine is an important step in the direction of stabilization of the situation in the southeastern regions of Ukraine.

"Of course, the first step, under the Geneva statement, should be the halt of violence. In today's situation, it means immediately stopping the use of the army against the country's people. I think it doesn't even need to be proven to anyone. It's outrageous," Lavrov said at a forum of young CIS diplomats on Friday.

"If the Kyiv authorities really begin fulfilling the Geneva agreement by taking away this shameful Maidan, leave the illegally occupied buildings, disarm Right Sector and other radicals, then, as was said more than once on Russian television that broadcasts to the southeast [of Ukraine], the leaders of the southeast will also be ready to take similar steps in accordance with the Geneva statements, they will also leave administrative buildings, will also surrender their weapons, if the militants who are terrorizing them surrender their weapons."
