MasterCard to stop servicing SMP Bank, InvestCapitalBank cards

MOSCOW. April 29 (Interfax) - MasterCard will stop servicing cards issued by Russia's SMP bank and InvestCapitalBank, the U.S. payments system said in a press release.

Both banks, controlled by Arkady and Boris Rotenberg, were put on a second list of U.S. sanctions against Russia on Monday.

The banks will be able to continue to service their own cards via their own client offices and cash machines, MasterCard said.

MasterCard said it continued to work with its Russian partners as usual, except for SMP Bank, InvestCapitalBank and Bank Rossiya and Sobinbank.

Bank Rossiya was included in the first list of U.S. sanctions against Russia on March 20. Sobinbank is wholly owned by Rossiya and has been operating for more than a month under the influence of the sanctions.

SMP Bank and InvestCapitalBank are Russia's 35th and 193rd largest banks by assets, according to the Interfax-100 ranking.
