Russian veterans urge Ukrainian comrades to prevent use of military force against citizens
MOSCOW. April 29 (Interfax-AVN) - An appeal to unite and to prevent the use of military force against civilians in Ukraine, addressed to Ukrainians war veterans, was unanimously adopted at a ceremonial meeting at the Public Chamber on Tuesday ahead of Victory Day, an Interfax corresponded told Interfax.
"Sixty-nine years ago we joined our ranks and saved mankind from the worst disaster in history - the brown plague of fascism which took the lives of more than 50 million people, including 27 million of our compatriots. Millions were tortured to death at concentration camps and burnt in gas chambers," the appeal says.
"The Ukrainian people are going through a time of trials," the veterans said. "Political games have led to fatalities. Attempts are being made to split the Ukrainian people and to cut the bonds of friendship between Ukrainians and Russians," the letter says.
The Russian war veterans urged their Ukrainian comrades-in-arms "to unite, to prevent the use of troops against citizens, and to defend the honor and dignity of law enforcement and special services personnel who continue their selfless duty to protect civilians," the appeal says.
