Kyiv govt should engage in dialogue with Ukraine's southeast - Russian foreign minister
LIMA. May 1 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called on Ukraine's central authorities to establish their dialogue with the country's regions under the auspices of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
"In any case, both Russia and Peru support the establishment of dialogue in Ukraine. It is a crucial task," Lavrov told reporters after negotiations with Peruvian Foreign Minister Eda Rivas.
"The authorities in Kyiv ought to realize and honor its responsibility and engage in dialogue with representatives in the south and the east [of Ukraine] in order to decide how they should go on," he said.
"Russia believes that such a dialogue between the authorities and their opponents in other districts of the country could be established under the auspices of the OSCE," the Russian minister said.
"We are hopeful that our Western colleagues who are still having doubts on that score will lift their objections and will let the Ukrainians establish this dialogue unimpeded," Lavrov said.
The Russian foreign minister said he had the impression that Latin America was facing a shortage of information about the Ukrainian crisis, and the Russian delegation "tried to fill this deficit."
Lavrov said that he had discussed the Ukrainian issue at a meeting with Peru's president Ollanta Humala.
He also invited Foreign Minister Rivas to visit Russia.
