Representative of Slovyansk self-defense denies Avakov's statement on "Russian special task force"
SLOVYANSK. May 5 (Interfax) - A representative of the Slovyansk self-defense forces has flatly denied the statements by Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov that the shots fired at Ukrainian helicopters in Slovyansk were fired by "a Russian special task force," not the self-defense forces.
On Friday, the Kyiv administration began a military operation in Slovyansk, in which members of the group Right Sector and other ultra-nationalist groups are reportedly involved.
A representative of the Slovyansk self-defense force has flatly denied Avakov's statements that the operation is targeted against "a group of saboteurs from the Russian Main Intelligence Department," not against Ukrainian people.
"There are no groups of saboteurs in the city. Missiles are fired at residents of Slovyansk, its civilian population," the source said.
