Russian Public Chamber is preparing to file lawsuit against Ukraine with European Court of Human Rights - newspaper
MOSCOW. May 5 (Interfax) - Members of the Russian Public Chamber are preparing to file a lawsuit with the European Court of Human Rights against the Ukrainian administration over the tragedy in Odesa and the deaths of civilians in other Ukrainian cities, Izvestiya reported on Monday.
"We are now collecting information and preparing to file a lawsuit against Ukraine with the European Court of Human Rights," Public Chamber member Georgy Fyodorov told Izvestiya.
According to Izvestiya, a lawsuit with the European Court of Human Rights is initiated not only by Public Chamber members, but also by Internet users. A group of citizens have launched a campaign on the Internet to collect signatures for a lawsuit filed with the European Court of Human Rights. The activists are calling on the European Court of Human Rights to subject the Ukrainian authorities to criminal liability for crimes against their own citizens.
"The rights of many citizens of Ukraine are not protected by anyone now! People are abducted and taken in unknown directions without filing any charges, people are robbed and killed with impunity. The self-proclaimed government is doing everything to fuel ethic enmity and the genocide of its own people! We demand that those who now order the use of the army against their own citizens be subjected to criminal liability!" Izvestiya quoted the petition as saying.
According to Izvestiya, some 2,000 citizens, including residents of Russia, Ukraine, Italy, Greece, Germany, and other countries, have signed the petition.
