Putin may attend celebrations of 70th anniversary of D-Day landings in Normandy
MOSCOW. May 6 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin may visit France at the beginning of June to attend ceremonies marking the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy during World War II.
"We do not rule out such a possibility. Such a visit is being discussed," the Russian president's press secretary Dmitry Peskov told Interfax on Tuesday.
The leaders of the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany are expected to participate at these celebrations.
Ten years ago, in 2004, Putin attended similar ceremonies that marked the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.
During his visit to France then, the Russian president held brief meetings with the leaders of the U.S., Poland, Canada, Germany and other countries.
