Ukraine welcomes Germany's proposal for second round of Geneva meeting - Ukrainian foreign minister
KYIV. May 6 (Interfax) - Ukraine is open for dialogue and welcomes Germany's proposal regarding holding a second round of the Geneva meetings, acting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Deshchytsya said.
Deshchytsya met in Vienna with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry information policy department said in a statement. "During the meeting most attention was paid to the issue of further prospects of de-escalating the situation in southern and eastern regions of Ukraine. Deshchytsya said in response to the proposal of the German party to hold a second stage of the Geneva meeting that Ukraine is always ready for constructive dialogue in the interests of Ukrainian people," the document said.
As to steps of the Ukrainian government to implement the Geneva agreements of April 17, "if all parties, firstly Russia, make as much effort as possible to fulfill the existing Geneva document, this should be enough for comprehensive situation de-escalation in southern and eastern regions of Ukraine," Deshchytsya said.
Steinmeier gave positive assessments to Ukraine's actions to implement the Geneva agreements and assured of support for holding unscheduled elections in Ukraine on May 25, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
