Lavrov: Russia will seek public investigation into Odesa tragedy
MOSCOW. May 7 (Interfax) - Russia will seek an in-depth investigation into the recent tragedy in Odesa and the publication of all case materials, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"No part of it should stay uninvestigated and unpublished," Lavrov said on Wednesday in the Foreign Ministry, where he laid down flowers to the memorial plates with the names of the officials of the Soviet Foreign Ministry and Foreign Trade Ministry who died in the Great Patriotic War.
"We will seek the truth," the minister said. He said all eyewitnesses' accounts indicate that the scale of the tragedy is misrepresented. "We will not let them close the investigation to the public," he said.
"What happened in Odesa on May 2 is pure fascism," Lavrov said.
The Victory Day is a holy day for Russians who, in addition to the feeling of gratitude and duty, now feel the need to prevent fascism from spreading to Europe and to the world in general. The minister said the European countries have turned a blind eye to the spread of the fascist ideology for many years and marches glorifying SS troops are held in some countries.
