Naryshkin: May 9 will always be day of defeat of all neo-Nazis

MOSCOW. May 7 (Interfax) - Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said that Victory Day will always be a day of defeat for neo-Nazis.

"I share war veterans' outrage by the actions and marches by Bandera followers in the cities of Ukraine and I would like to say: May 9, Victory Day, is a holy day to us and it will always be a day of defeat of all neo-Nazis," Naryshkin said opening a meeting with Great Patriotic War veterans in the State Duma on Wednesday.

Naryshkin reiterated that keeping historical memory is a national and state priority. He recalled that the State Duma has recently passed a law on criminal liability for attempts to rehabilitate Nazism.

Naryhshkin, who also chairs the Russian History Society, said the causes and outcome of the Great Patriotic War will always be covered broadly and in much detail in Russian textbooks.

Naryshkin congratulated the Great Patriotic War veterans and said their heroism will never be forgotten because they defended all of Europe and the whole world from German fascists.

Naryshkin said historians should meet more often, including on an international level, "to prevent pseudo-historians and unprincipled politicians from drowning the truth about the Great Patriotic War and our victory in a flow of lies and falsifications."
