Former high-ranking police chief Sugrobov detained after ignoring five summonses - source

MOSCOW. May 8 (Interfax) - Former Interior Ministry economic security and anti-corruption department chief Gen. Denis Sugrobov was detained on Thursday after failing to turn up for questioning as a witness in a case dealing with the organization of a criminal group and provocation of bribery, a source with knowledge of the situation told Interfax.

"Sugrobov didn't live at the place of his permanent [residence] registration and ignored summonses for questioning as a witness," the source said.

At least five such summonses have been sent to Sugrobov, but he never appeared before an investigator, he said.

Some of Sugrobov's deputies and other subordinates were earlier detained on suspicion of establishing a criminal group, provoking bribery, and abusing power.

Sugrobov was detained on Thursday, and the investigation is seeking a court sanction for his arrest.
