Kazakh President Nazarbayev backs high-level cooperation with U.S.
ASTANA. May 8 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns, the presidential press service reported.
The sides pondered main areas of bilateral relations, including trade, economic cooperation and investment. They also spoke about key aspects of Kazakhstan's upcoming accession to the WTO. Opinions were exchanged on pressing global affairs, among them the situation in Ukraine and Afghanistan.
Kazakhstan is ready for active development of bilateral relations with the United States, Nazarbayev declared.
"I met with the U.S. President in The Hague recently. We had an in-depth discussion on the relations between our countries and the contemporary global situation. We also released a joint statement. High-level bilateral cooperation should be continued," the president said.
In turn, Burns stressed the United States' lasting adherence to the strategic partnership with Kazakhstan.
