Russian arms exports top $2 Bln in Jan-Feb 2014
AMMAN. May 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia exported more than $2 billion worth of military-purpose products in January and February 2014, Valery Varlamov, who heads Russian state-controlled arms trader Rosoboronexport's delegation to the Sofex-2014 Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference in Amman, Jordan, told reporters on Thursday.
"All in all, in January, February and the first few days of March, Russia exported military-purpose products worth over $2 billion. But I do not have any concrete figures for Rosoboronexport," Varlamov said.
Rosoboronexport sells military-purpose products to more than 60 countries, he added.
In 2013, Rosoboronexport exported weapons worth $13.2 billion out of the entire Russian defense industry's arms exports of $15.7 billion, he said.
"We performed even better than had been planned, not considerably better, but still better. It became possible thanks to our skilled marketing work and concrete measures of political lobbying, as well as due to our knowledge of the markets and the experience of our specialists," Varlamov said.
Rosoboronexport's arms sales to foreign countries have almost quadrupled since 2001, he added.
