Putin to attend Normandy festivities in France - Peskov

MOSCOW. May 8 (Interfax) - Preparations are under way for Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to France to attend the festivities marking the anniversary of the allies' landing in Normandy, Russian President's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"Preparations for the visit are under way," he said.

French President Francois Hollande said earlier on Thursday that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will be a welcome guest if he decides to visit Normandy this summer.

"We may have differences with Vladimir Putin, but personally I shall never forget that the Russian people lost millions of lives (for the sake of winning the Second World War)," the French president said on the France 2 television channel.

This is why Putin will be a welcome guest if he comes to France to attend the 70th anniversary of the allied forces' landing in Normandy, Hollande said.
