Tyumen region governor resigns ahead of time in order to run in September election

SOCHI. May 13 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has allowed Vladimir Yakushev to step down from the post of Tyumen region governor ahead of time in order to be able to run in the region's gubernatorial elections, set for September 2014.

"Vladimir Vladimirovich, I have one request for you. Bearing in mind the need to continue the region's step-by-step development, and since I have been holding the post of Tyumen region governor for almost eight years, I would like to ask you to allow me resign before my term in office expires and take part in the gubernatorial elections in 2014," Yakushev said at a meeting with the Russian president on Tuesday.

"I, for my part, would like to ask you to continue to fulfill your duties until the elections in September this year. I wish you success," Putin said.

Putin earlier received a similar request from Kursk region governor Alexander Mikhailov.
