Gas Exporting Countries Forum not planning to regulate member state production - chief
MOSCOW. May 14 (Interfax) - The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) has no plans to regulate gas production by member states analogous to OPEC's oil production quotas, GECF Secretary General Seyed Mohammad Hossein Adeli said.
The GECF charter calls for exchanging experience and there is no mandate to regulate gas production, Adeli said at a meeting with MGIMO students and faculty on Wednesday.
The GECF's main goal is to ensure effective gas production in member states, as well as in non-member states, he said.
GECF members are Russia, Iran, Algeria, Bolivia, Venezuela, Egypt, Qatar, Libya, Nigeria, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Trinidad and Tobago and Equatorial Guinea. The Netherlands, Norway, Kazakhstan and Iraq have observer status.
