Cash hryvni remaining in Simferopol may be used to make payments to people of Crimea

SIMFEROPOL. May 15 (Interfax) - Crimea will repay Ukraine a large amount in cash hryvni that is now in a storage facility of the Ukrainian National Bank's department in Crimea if Ukraine fulfils its obligations to the people of the republic, Sergei Aksyonov, acting head of the republic, said.

"If Ukraine fulfils its obligations, including those associated with payments made by state establishments and banks to citizens of the Republic of Crimea, we, of course, will not keep this money," Aksyonov told reporters in Simferopol on Wednesday.

Aksyonov said the money may also be used for compensations to residents of Crimea for their deposits in Ukrainian banks. "If the so-called administration of Ukraine violates its obligations again, this money may be used for paying compensation to citizens, depositors [of banks] who have lost their money," Aksyonov said.

Crimean First Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Temirgaliyev earlier told Interfax the National Bank of Ukraine had partially destroyed the cash hryvnia stored in the banks' storage facility in Simferopol, which is now sealed under a court ruling.
