Foreign companies will not be involved in developing deposits off Crimean coast - Chernomorskneftegaz general director

SIMFEROPOL. May 15 (Interfax) - Foreign companies will not be involved in the development of oil and gas deposits on the Black Sea and Sea of Azov shelves off the coast of Crimea, Andrei Ilyin, general director of the Crimean extracting company Chernomorskneftegaz, said.

"I am confident that they won't [be involved]," Ilyin said responding to a question as to whether foreign companies will be working off the coast of Crimea.

Ilyin said Crimea does not need a considerable increase of oil and gas extraction.

"Some 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas a year will be enough for the internal consumption of Crimea on condition that 20% of the districts [of the Republic of Crimea] that are not gasified yet are gasified. We can, of course, speak about increasing gas extraction to 3-3.5 billion cubic meters [a year], but the question is what to do with it, where to sell it," Ilyin said.
