FSKN chief congratulates Afghan colleagues on destroying 5 drug labs

MOSCOW. May 15 (Interfax) - Five drug labs have been destroyed in Afghanistan in the course of an anti-drug operation supported by the Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN), FSKN chief Viktor Ivanov said.

"The Afghan Interior Ministry supported by Russia's FSKN has conducted an anti-drug operation and destroyed five drug labs in the province of Badakhshan in northern Afghanistan. According to tentative estimates these labs were daily producing over 250 kilograms of heroin," Ivanov said at an anti-drug conference in Moscow on Thursday.

"I would like to congratulate Afghan colleagues on this victory," Ivanov said.

"The law enforcement operation of the two countries seized about 300 kilograms of opium drugs, more than eight tonnes of precursors and large quantities of production machinery," the FSKN press service told Interfax.

The operation was held on May 14.

"Five helicopters of the special-purpose aviation group of the Afghan Defense Ministry and Interior Ministry and officers of the anti-drug police of the Afghan Interior Ministry and Russia's FSKN detected and destroyed the drug labs," the press service said.
