Pushilin most likely candidate for Donetsk People's Republic leader
DONETSK,. May 18 (Interfax) - A leader of the "Donetsk People's Republic," Denis Pushilin, is the most likely candidate for the post of the republic's parliamentary speaker, a self-defense forces spokesman told Interfax.
"Given that Pushilin played the first roles in the People's Council, it would be logical to suggest that he will be elected speaker of the Supreme Council and become the key figure in the Donetsk People's Republic," he said.
He described Pushilin as an experienced politician with significant political weight in the region, adding that the post of parliamentary speaker is likely to be filled next week.
Reports said earlier that Alexander Borodai was elected prime minister of the "Donetsk People's Republic" on May 16. In accordance with the republic's constitution, adopted a few days ago, "the Supreme Council, the republic's parliament, is the highest and only legislative (representative) body of state authority in the Donetsk People's Republic."
