Trial regarding Vilayat Galgaycho terrorist community member starts in Rostov-on-Don

ROSTOV-ON-DON. May 19 (Interfax) - The North Caucasus district military court will start considering the case of Anzor Tsechoyev, accused of banditry, making an attempt at the life of a law enforcement officer and a number of other crimes on Tuesday, the court press office told Interfax on Monday.

"The consideration of the defendant's case will start at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Member of the Vilayat Galgaycho criminal community Tsechoyev has admitted his guilt and concluded a pre-trial agreement with investigators. The case will be tried under special procedure and a sentence could be announced on the first day of the court hearing," the press office said.

According to the information of investigators, on August 19, 2011 Tsechoyev and other gang members were involved in making an attempt on the life of a police officer, who died at the scene. In June 2011 Tsechoyev activated home-made explosive devices twice and inflicted 2.5-million-ruble damage to the property of a local businessman.

In November-December 2012 the defendant extorted a total of 18 million rubles from the deputy director of the Interregional Network Company of North Caucasus and Rosselkhozbank branch manager.

On May 1, 2010 he set on fire to a kiosk in Malgobek and destroyed property worth 175,000 rubles.

The case was probed by the Russian Investigative Committee main investigative department for the North Caucasus Federal District. Tsechoyev has been placed under arrest.

According to the information of investigators, Vilayat Galgaycho members are involved in carrying out the terrorist attack at the central market of Vladikavkaz in September 2010.

On September 9, 2010 a Volga vehicle with a suicide bomber behind the wheel exploded near the central market in Vladikavkaz. The capacity of the explosive device amounted to 40 kilograms of triton equivalent. The terrorist attack claimed twenty lives, including that of the suicide bomber, and injured over 200 people.

Court sentenced suspected head of Vilayat Galgaycho and some stable armed groups Isa Khashulgov to life imprisonment in a maximum security colony.

Defendants Mikail Khashagulov and Magomed Daurbekov were sentenced to 14 years, Khizar Daurbekov to 24 years, and Yusup Dzangiyev to 20 years. They will all serve time in a maximum security colony.

Court also considered materials on suicide bombings in September and December 2009 at the traffic police checkpoint for Ingushetia, the explosion in the village of Chermen in North Ossetia in August 2010 and the shooting at the traffic police checkpoint in the Ingush village of Yandar in September 2010.
