Over 55,000 police personnel, 20,000 volunteers to maintain order on polling day in Ukraine - police
KYIV. May 20 (Interfax) - Over 75,000 personnel, among them 55,700 policemen and more than 20,000 volunteers, will maintain public order in Ukraine on the polling day in the presidential elections on May 25, Andriy Chaly, the head of he Ukrainian Interior Ministry's Department for Mass Public Events, said.
"The Interior Ministry is preparing to maintain the security of citizens and members of the election commissions. The contingent to be drawn for the polling day will be great and include cadets of the Interior Ministry's universities, servicemen of the National Guard, and representatives of the public," Chaly said at a press conference at Interfax in Kyiv on Tuesday.
He said the presidential elections are proceeding in a complicated sociopolitical and crime situation.
"We have set up more than 32 polling stations. Public order will be maintained by over 55,700 police personnel. We are also going to draw 20,000 volunteers," Chaly said, adding that the security of the polling stations will be maintained by over 20,000 police personnel and more than 3,000 representatives of the public.
In Kyiv, 4,700 police personnel and over 3,600 volunteers will be involved in the effort to maintain peace.
