Putin: Train wreck in Moscow region to be probed thoroughly, fatalities' families to receive aid

SHANGHAI. May 20 (Interfax) - The Russian government is doing all it can to help those injured in a Tuesday train wreck in the Moscow region, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, vowing also that the accident would be investigated thoroughly.

"We are taking all possible measures to help those injured and will certainly provide assistance to the families of the dead. Certainly, a thorough investigation into this incident will be carried out," Putin said at a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Ban offered his condolences on the deadly wreck and wished those injured a speedy recovery. He also said he was confident that all necessary measures would be taken under Putin's guidance.

It was reported earlier that a Moscow-Chisinau passenger train collided with a freight train between Bekasovo and Nara 80 kilometers away from Moscow on Tuesday. Russian Railways said the freight train tangentially hit carriage 7 of the passenger train. Six people were killed and about 30 others injured in the wreck.
