Rosatom in talks with China on building power units

ST. PETERSBURG. May 22 (Interfax) - Russian State Nuclear Energy Company Rosatom has begun talks with China on the construction of power units on the country's mainland, Rosatom CEO Sergei Kiriyenko told journalists on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Thursday.

"We have initiated talks with China," he said.

The units could be build using Russian technology.

The decision to build a seventh and eighth power unit at the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) has not yet been made, Kiriyenko said, adding that the fifth and sixth units would definitely be built.

Rosatom is currently building a third and fourth unit at the Tianwan NPP and is discussing the possibility of building another four units. NPPs have not yet been constructed on Mainland China.
