ExxonMobil staying in Sakhalin-1 project - Sakhalin governor

ST. PETERSBURG. May 23 (Interfax) - ExxonMobil is staying in the Sakhalin-1 project, Governor of the Sakhalin region Alexander Khoroshavin told journalists on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

He said information about the American company's withdrawal from the project was "hogwash." "The administration of the Sakhalin region and the government have not had any talks on this issue," Khoroshavin said, adding that talks were not currently taking place and are not planned to take place in the near future. "Exxon is working like it used to work," he said.

In mid-May, a number of news sources reported that ExxonMobil, which owns 30% of the Sakhalin-1 project, could leave the project. On the same day, the Russian Energy Ministry announced that it had not received any official information on ExxonMobil's desire to withdraw from the project.

Aside from ExxonMobil, Rosneft has 20% stake in the project, India's state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has 20% and SODECO has 30%.
