Georgia-EU association won't harm Russia - Tbilisi
TBILISI. May 23 (Interfax) - The association deal Georgia and the European Union will conclude this June is not targeted against Russia, Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze said.
"It is hardly thinkable that the association agreement can do any harm to Russia. Our rapprochement with the European Union is not targeted against anyone," Panjikidze told reporters, referring to the opinion of Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich that the association deal with the EU would have consequences for Georgia.
In the words of Lukashevich, Russia respects the right to every nation to choose a path or membership in an international format, moreover to legalize this membership with special agreements, but it is important to realize the consequences that the Georgia-EU association agreement scheduled to be signed on June 27 may have.
In addition, the Georgian foreign minister welcomed the decision of Moscow to admit some Georgian agricultural products to the Russian market from Monday.
'The Russian market is huge and interesting and it is well aware of Georgian products, so it is essential for our economy to be present there," Panjikidze said.
