Putin: Energy industry should be freed from over-politicization

ST. PETERSBURG. May 24 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for freeing the energy sector from unnecessary politicization, which, in his words, disrupts the industry's economic foundations.

"It is in our common interests to make energy cooperation more efficient and useful and free it from excessive and unnecessary politicization, which deforms the economic foundations and principles of this strategic sector," Putin said at a summit of energy companies on St. Petersburg on Saturday.

Reliable and uninterrupted energy supply plays a key role in stability and progress of national economies and the global economy as a whole, Putin said.
