Polling stations open in Ukraine for presidential election

KYIV. May 25 (Interfax) - Polling stations opened in Ukraine at 8 a.m. on Sunday for the extraordinary presidential election.

Verkhovna Rada resolved to hold the election after Viktor Yanukovych elected the fourth president of Ukraine in a regular election in January 2010 left Ukraine on February 22 this year after a long standoff on the Maidan.

The Central Elections Commission registered 23 presidential candidates but later two of them withdrew from the race in due time by May 1. Therefore there are 21 names on the ballot.
