Terrorist cell leader detained in Moscow region on suspicion of committing robbery in 2012
MOSCOW. May 28 (Interfax) - Cell leader of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan banned terrorist organization has been detained in the Moscow region by criminal investigation office and FSB officers, the Russian Interior Ministry press office told Interfax.
"Employees of the main criminal investigation department in association with colleagues from Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) have detained leader of the ethnic organized group, whose members committed armed robbery," the press office said.
The group included Tajik natives and operated in the Moscow region, the press office said. The suspects' arsenal comprised of a Kalashnikov machine gun, traumatic gun altered for shooting, a home-made silencer and a lot of ammunition.
According to the information of the Interior Ministry, in 2012 gang members committed a robbery of a Moscow company, during which they injured a manager and took 900,000 rubles.
A criminal case was opened. Three individuals, suspected of committing this crime, were detained earlier and have already been sentenced to imprisonment, while their leader managed to escape back then.
"While carrying out investigative proceedings in the Moscow region's Noginsk the leader of this group was detained. He turned out to be a 27-year-old Tajik citizen. According to the existing information, he was also a cell leader of Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan banned terrorist organization and was actively engaged in recruiting Central Asian natives," the ministry said.
A fake passport of a Tajik citizen was found and seized from the suspect.
His involvement in other crimes is being verified now.
