UNSC should urge Kyiv to stop southeast Ukraine operation - Russian envoy
NEW YORK. May 29 (Interfax) - Russia's UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin believes that the UN Security Council should call on the Ukrainian authorities to stop their military operation in the southeast of Ukraine.
"Members of the [UN] Security Council should call on Kyiv to eventually realize the need to heed the interests of all citizens of the country and immediately stop the military operation in the southeast of the country," Churkin said at a UN Security Council meeting.
These steps "would help switch to a genuine nationwide dialogue, discussions on mutually acceptable constitutional reforms and a true dialogue in place of roundtables held in the absence of representatives of the protest movement from the southeast in order to cover up for the "punitive" operation," he said.
