Large-scale military operation underway in Slovyansk and Kramatorsk - media

KYIV. May 29 (Interfax) - A large-scale military operation involving artillery weapons and combat aircraft has been launched in Slovyansk and Kramatorsk, Donetsk's OstroV news website reported on Thursday, citing its sources and eyewitnesses.

"A large-scale "anti-terrorist" operation has begun in Slovyansk and Kramatorsk. Airstrikes are being carried out against the militants' fire positions. Grad multiple rocket launchers are being used," OstroV said, referring to one of its sources.

According to OstroV, people write on the Free Slovyansk Twitter account: "They say that people are not being allowed to leave Cherevkivka, where an offensive is underway using helicopters and airplanes. Explosions and gunfire can be heard near the railway. They say weapons have been positioned on the premises of the 66th and 70th kindergartens."

People have also said on social networking websites that there have been disruptions to mobile phone services in the area due to a traffic overload problem on the cellular network.
