Ukraine appoints Ukrinterenergo as power seller to Crimea from June 1
KYIV. May 29 (Interfax) - Starting from June 1 only Ukrinterenergo state enterprise will be able to purchase power on Ukraine's wholesale market in order to supply it to Crimea - the Ukrainian government said in a relevant decision.
According to the resolution of May 7 released on Thursday, Ukrinterenergo will sell power to Crimean enterprises under bilateral agreements, while the Ukrenergo state power company will keep records on these power supplies.
Upon an appeal of wholesale power supplier, Ukrenergo will also restrict supplies to Crimea in case named bilateral agreements do not exist or agreement conditions on power payments are not complied with.
The Ukrainian government has also banned the wholesale supplier from purchasing power from producers located in Crimea and to carry out payments with them, including on repaying debt.
According to the resolution, starting from June 1 Crimean power generating and supplying companies will buy and sell power under contract prices with contractors.
It has been reported that up until recently Ukrainian power was supplied to Crimean consumers via the Krymenergo and Sevastopolenergo power supply companies, which bought it at wholesale markets. Wholesale markets in power-deficient Crimea also bought power from alternative generators (sun and wind power stations) under high tariffs.
