Russian Central Elections Commission member to monitor 2nd round of Afghanistan presidential election
MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - A Russian Central Elections Commission (CEC) member will visit several polling stations in Kabul on June 14 as part of an international observation mission of the second round of presidential elections in Afghanistan.
"I will take part in the monitoring at Kabul polling stations on June 14. Meetings with the elections organizers, a complaints commission and the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan are planned during the visit," Russian CEC member Siyabshakh Shapiyev told Interfax on Friday.
Shapiyev took part in the observation of the first round of the presidential election in Afghanistan on April 5. He said then that, despite threats from the Taliban, the voter turnout was nearly twice as high as in the 2009 elections.
