Mothers with children rally in Donetsk demanding that Kyiv stop war
DONETSK. June 1 (Interfax) - Mothers with children came to a rally in Lenin Square in Donetsk on Children's Day in protest against the antiterrorist operation conducted by the Ukrainian authorities.
They are carrying placards saying "Save the children of Donbas", "No the Ukrainian army" and "We are for peace".
Some two dozen children at the foot of the Lenin monument addressed Ukrainian President elect Petro Poroshenko to stop the war: "Uncle Poroshenko, stop the war, we want peace."
The children are carrying balloons which they occasionally let go. There are several hundred people in the square.
The situation in the city is calm. Patrol and traffic police are in charge of security.
