Another 80 Ukrainian refugees to arrive in Rostov region Tuesday - Astakhov

MOSCOW. June 3 (Interfax) - Another 80 refugees from Ukraine are expected to arrive in the Rostov region on Tuesday, said Russia's Children's Rights Commissioner Pavel Astakhov.

"Fifty-six people arrived in the Rostov region yesterday and 80 more are expected to arrive on Tuesday," he said at a press conference on Tuesday.

He also said that Ukrainian children will also be accommodated in Crimea. "Eight hundred and thirty-one children have been accommodated in Crimea at specialized establishments and hostels," he said.

Ukrainian refugees are also arriving in the Belgorod and Voronezh regions, and Stavropol Territory.

He said the Ukrainian refugees will hopefully get refugee status under a relaxed procedure, he also said.

"We do hope that a bill would be debated that would relax the procedure of granting refugee status to Ukrainian refugees," he said, adding that a relevant letter has been filed with corresponding agencies.

Astakhov announced that he had turned to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and the UN Commission on Human Rights requesting that special attention be given to the situation in Ukraine and that the Ukrainian president should be urged to honor his obligations.

"The appeals being voiced are sufficient for a person to honor his obligations," he said.
