Moscow negotiating Mil Mi-35 delivery with Islamabad

MOSCOW. June 4 (Interfax) - Russia is negotiating a delivery of Mil Mi-35 helicopters to Pakistan, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

"True, negotiations are being held with Pakistani partners on Russia's assistance in the build-up of the counterterrorism and anti-drug potential of Islamabad, for instance, through the delivery of a batch of Mil Mi-35 helicopters," the ministry said in a commentary posted on Wednesday.

"Despite claims of certain media outlets, Russia has never imposed an embargo on arms deliveries to Pakistan," it emphasized. "Helicopters have been supplied to Pakistan before and military-technological cooperation with that country was launched in the 1960s."

"Russian-Pakistani collaboration in this field does not create a threat to the regional military-strategic balance and is not targeted against third countries," the ministry emphasized.
